Indiana Gov. Mike Braun and U.S. Rep. Jim Baird joined U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Tuesday as she signed waivers for Idaho, Utah, and Arkansas to remove certain items from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps.

The waivers aim to eliminate junk food from SNAP and promote healthier eating habits. One goal of the change is to lower obesity rates in children across the country.

Indiana had previously received a waiver to remove soft drinks and candy from its SNAP program.

Indiana’s Republican governor said Tuesday, “This should cascade across the country and, with this kind of energy, this kind of enthusiasm, that’s how we fix the underlying issues.”

Rollins announced that six states have received waivers, with more expected to be added soon.
