Thomas Frederick Carter, 80, Westfield, formerly of Greenville, Mich., passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at his home. He was born on October 16, 1944, to Harold “Scoot” and Mary (Wakefield) Carter in Greenville, Mich.
Tom proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Army National Guard. He worked as an athletic trainer for the University of Wisconsin and was an administrator at Oakfield Baptist Academy. Tom enjoyed coaching basketball and served as a camp ministry director. Tom married Nancy Lou Reed on June 25, 1968. They moved to Indiana in 2014 where they were active in both The Creek Church and Grace Church. Tom lived out his deep faith in Christ and impacted many lives because of it.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy “Nan” L. Carter; daughter, Joy (Robert) Palmer; son, Gary (Lori) Carter; brother, Bruce (Sherry) Carter; sister-in-law, Mary (Rich) Borrelli; grandchildren, Josh (Megan) Hayward, Bethany (Courtland) Jones, SrA Nathan Hayward (USAF), Andrew Hayward, Anna Hayward, Braydon Carter, Kylie Carter, Kristina Palmer, and Tiffany Palmer; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Don & Doris Reed; infant brother, Jerold Carter; and grandparents, Harold & Ruby Carter, and Ernest & Edith Wakefield.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., with services at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Grace Church, Student Ministry East – Door 12, 5504 E. 146th St., Noblesville. Burial will be at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Westfield.
