Despite moving Rock the Block into the Westfield High School gymnasium Friday, Aug. 2, due to possible inclement weather, the community turned out in droves sporting their green and looking to have a good time before school is back in session.
“It’s a wonderful event bringing the whole community together to get ready for a fantastic school year,” said Oak Trace Principal Jane Hitch.
Each of the schools in the Westfield Washington district hosted a tent with games for kids to earn prizes and candy. Probably the most original game was Maple Glen Elementary School’s poop toss. Yep. One equation is clear even before class starts: two toilets plus a handful of stuffed “poop” emojis equals lots of laughter and loads of fun.
Along with the schools, local restaurants, community organizations, churches, clubs, teams and more set up tables and tents and everything from Riverview Health’s carpet golf to a dart- shooting identify-the-animal game from Scouting America Troops 107 and 1070.
In addition to live music from students, the WHS and WMS cheerleaders got the crowd fired up, and the Pride of Westfield marching band performed part of their fall 2024 show, Tabula Rasa.
School starts Thursday, Aug. 8 for Westfield Washington Schools.
