Coler reflects on winning HCC coach of the year

The REPORTER

The 2025 season marked the second year in a row that Westfield’s Trudy Coler won the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Coach of the Year award in girls tennis.

Coler tied with Zionsville’s Alex Wittenbaum for the award last year. This year, in her 18th season coaching the Shamrocks, Coler has the award all to herself.

“I’m just really proud of the program that we have built over the years,” said Coler. “Each year we build. We just keep building, and the players are the ones that are doing the work. They’re doing the hard work in the off-season and they’re putting the time in.”

Westfield qualified for the team state finals for the second consecutive year this season, winning a 5-0 quarterfinal over Bishop Chatard before falling to eventual state champion Jasper 4-1 in the semifinals, completing their season with a 22-2 record.

“This season, we had such a great group of girls that were just ready to play, and they were really focused on wanting to get back to state and were able to accomplish that goal,” said Coler.
