Tennis: Westfield girls overtake Avon, Southeastern falls to Cathedral

The Westfield girls tennis team won a close battle of Hoosier Crossroads Conference teams on Thursday, as the No. 9 Shamrocks beat No. 13 Avon 3-2.

Westfield got wins at No. 2 singles from Alana Raymond 6-0, 6-3 and No. 3 singles Addi Kooi 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. No. 2 doubles Chloe Carlson and Bri Saylor won their match 6-3, 6-0. No. 1 singles Juliette Grilliot pushed dropped a tough three-set match 7-5, 5-7, 6-0, while No. 1 doubles Olivia Krauss and Jenna Berry fell 6-4, 6-2.

The Shamrocks are 2-0 and play today at the Delta Invitational.

Hamilton Southeastern was edged out by Cathedral on Friday 3-2.

The Royals won both doubles matches; the winning teams were No. 1 Novelle Lee and Maya Wetzel and No. 2 Veronika Sukhanych and Nicole Mathenge.
