Tennis: Southeastern beats Avon, stays perfect for season

The Hamilton Southeastern girls tennis team kept its Hoosier Crossroads Conference record perfect on Thursday by beating No. 7 Avon 4-1.
The No. 5-ranked Royals started the meet with two easy wins from their doubles teams. No. 2 Kaylee Etheredge and Meghan Slaninka were the first to finish, winning 6-3, 6-1, then No. 1 Misha Bukkasagaram and Emily Orme were victorious 6-0, 6-1.
“Our doubles teams were dominant tonight,” said Southeastern coach Kirk Webber. “They came out and took control early and never looked back. They never let Avon get any momentum. It was good to get two quick doubles wins on the board early.”
No. 1 singles Tea Vrkic won 6-4, 6-0 and No. 3 singles Emma Bieberich won 7-5, 6-4. No. 2 singles Taylor Wolf played a tough three-set match before falling 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. Webber said “the fact that she was able to come back and win the second set after losing the first 0-6 shows what kind of player she is. Love to see the fight and ability to adapt her game plan mid-match.”
The Royals are 6-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall, and will play at the Delta Invitational on Saturday.
In other Thursday dual meets, No. 9 Fishers beat No. 16 Westfield 4-1, while No. 2 Carmel swept North Central 5-0.
