Tennis: Millers sweep FC

The Noblesville boys tennis team swept Franklin Central 5-0 Thursday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet.
In singles play, No. 1 Noah Bushong won 6-3, 6-1, No. 2 Michael Kurkover came back to get a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory and No. 3 Zach Greer won 6-3, 6-3. The No. 1 doubles team of Evan Vogt and Josh Middleton took their match 7-5, 6-3, while No. 2 Jonathan Maskew and Sean Vitales were 6-3, 6-1 winners.
Millers coach Tim Samons said this was a “great match” for Noblesville, with No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles giving “outstanding performances” against the Flashes.

Guerin Catholic won its Senior Night meet with Lawrence Central 3-2 on Thursday.
Two of the Golden Eagles’ match wins came from their seniors: No. 3 singles Jackson Wolfgram and No. 2 doubles Luke Gregor and James Murphy, who won 6-4 in the third set. Guerin also won the junior varsity meet 4-1.

Carmel beat North Central 5-0 on Thursday.
The Greyhounds got the sweep by winning a third set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles. Carmel’s junior varsity also won, by the score of 13-2.

Hamilton Heights dropped a Hoosier Conference meet to Northwestern 4-1 on Thursday.
Huskies coach Wayne Rupe said the match was “a lot closer than the score indicated.” Heights’ win came from No. 1 doubles, where Aidan Ray and Josh Russell won 6-1, 6-0. No. 2 doubles Jake Martin and Erik Malott lost a razor-thin tough match, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5). No. 1 singles Nick Rice battled before falling 6-2, 7-5.
The Huskies’ junior varsity tied 4-4. Heights plays at Madison-Grant Saturday morning.
