Tennis: Fishers claims Mudsock trophy, Rocks sweep Franklin Central

The Fishers girls tennis team won the Mudsock meet over Hamilton Southeastern 4-1 Tuesday at the Tigers’ courts.

All five matches were decided in straight sets. No. 2-ranked Fishers got a 6-1, 6-0 victory from Mischa Briggs at No. 1 singles, while Meredith Ober won the No. 3 singles match 6-4, 6-2. In doubles, No. 1 Caroline Ober and Cassie Maurer were victorious 6-1, 6-0 and No. 2 Emma Beehler and Izzy Ireland were 6-0, 6-0 winners.

No. 2 Morgan Filer won the No. 27-ranked Royals’ match, 6-4, 6-2.

Both teams will be back in action later this week for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet, hosted by Noblesville. The tournament begins on Thursday and finishes on Saturday.

Westfield, ranked No. 13 in this week’s IHSTeCA poll, swept Franklin Central 5-0 on Tuesday.

Juliette Grilliot came back to win the No. 1 singles match 2-6, 6-0, 10-5. The Shamrocks won the other four matches in straight sets: No. 2 singles Addi Kooi was a 6-2, 6-3 winner, No. 3 singles Isla Harvey scored a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, and both doubles teams were 6-0, 6-1 winners: No. 1 Bella Rivera and Jenna Berry and No. 2 Bri Saylor and Carlie Lukowiak.

Westfield is 10-4 and plays Wednesday at Lebanon before heading to the HCC tournament.
