The Carmel boys tennis team won the Metropolitan Conference meet Saturday at Ben Davis.
The Greyhounds scored 50 points and won three of the five flights. Presley Thieneman cruised to victory at No. 1 singles, dropping only five games in three matches. He beat North Central’s Ian Brady 6-2, 6-2 in the first-place match.
Carmel swept both doubles flights. The No. 1 team of Uday Lomada and Jones McNamar lost only three games, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the final. At No. 2 doubles, Eli Mercer and John Zirkelbach also only last three games, winning the championship match 6-1, 6-1.
Broc Fletcher was the runner-up at No. 2 singles, with Ethan Zhang placing second at No. 3 singles.
“It was a great team effort today,” said Greyhounds coach Bryan Hanan. “We are starting to peak which is usually what we do when the state tournament starts. We are excited to get going starting with the sectional in two weeks.”
The Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet finished up Saturday at Zionsville.
Fishers placed second in the meet with 32 points; the host Eagles won with 36. Hamilton Southeastern was a close third by scoring 31 points, with Westfield totaling 30 points to place fourth. Noblesville finished sixth with 15 points.
Royals freshman Rohan Golla won the No. 3 singles division, going 3-0. Southeastern’s No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Spirrison and Daniel Verde finished third; Golla, Spirrison and Verde all made the All-HCC team.
