Tennis: Carmel wins 1 vs. 2 clash with Homestead

While the Carmel football team was hosting its Homecoming game, the Greyhounds’ boys tennis team was having a big clash of its own.
Top-ranked Carmel hosted No. 2 Homestead at the Eric Clark Activity Center, and came away with a 4-1 win. The ‘Hounds clinched the victory when the No. 1 doubles team of Uday Lomada and Jones McNamar won its match 6-3, 7-5. That followed quick victories by No. 1 singles Presley Thieneman (6-1, 6-2) and No. 2 doubles John Zirkelbach and Eli Mercer (7-5, 6-0).
No. 3 singles Ethan Zhang also won his match, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
“Tonight was the best effort we put forth this year,” said Carmel coach Bryan Hanan. “We came to play tonight and it all started with a good week of practice.”
The Greyhounds are back in action today at Center Grove, playing the Trojans and Jasper.
