Koda Witsken to lead teen mural camp at Fishers’ Brooks School Park in July
Local artist and Indiana native Koda Witsken will lead a mural camp this summer in partnership with Fishers Parks. The camp, to take place at Brooks School Park in Fishers, will be open to artists aged 13 to 19. It will take place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily July 18-22.
The camp will explore how public art is more important than ever to beautify spaces, to facilitate community conversations, and to encourage people to pay attention and perceive more deeply the environments they occupy.
This unique outdoor camp provides a COVID-safe opportunity for teen artists in Hamilton County to learn about murals and the history of public art. Each student will create an outdoor mural on the concrete Art Wall at Brooks School Park (40 feet long by 5 feet tall) over the course of the workshop. Campers will also complete art history modules created specifically for this workshop by national museum professionals as well as meet local professional artists to inspire their future art careers.
Witsken says that she hopes “the mural camp can give students the tools to participate in their local cultural narrative as well as give them the foundation to potentially pursue art as a lucrative and stable career, all in a COVID-safe outdoor format.”
All skill levels are welcome. There are 16 spots available, and registration is currently live. Interested students can sign up at playfishers.com/472/Partner-Camps.
