Last Thursday, Teach One to Lead One (T1L1), honored 148 high school and middle school students from Hamilton Heights who recently completed the T1L1 Leadership Curriculum.

T1L1 is a community mentoring program. Caring adult mentors meet weekly with students throughout the school year. The mentors lead the students in a discussion of 10 Universal Principles that are essential for student leaders to possess if they are to find their purpose and reach their potential. The 10 Universal Principles are respect, integrity, self-control, compassion, courage, teamwork, excellence, humility, enthusiasm, and honor. Students are encouraged to find ways to put these principles into action.

In addition to the graduating students, six students were recognized with the Positive Influence Award. They were, from the high school: Esther Martin, Liam Shaffer, and Alyse Turner; and from the middle school: Gabby Blanton, Bentley Michael, and Dashal Thomas. Six other students were recognized with the Second Mile Award. Those students were, from the high school: Hattie Graham, Conner Smith, and Nicholas Sweeney; and from the middle school: Sydney Forrester, Luke Nichols, and Jason Teboe.

The T1L1 program has been at Hamilton Heights for five years. Hamilton Heights was the first school district in Indiana to host a T1L1 community mentoring group.
