Friends of Prevail,

Hard to believe, but I have been in my role as Executive Director for almost six months.

My message remains the same as when I first started, our mission being front and center!  Prevail is here to serve those in need. The doors are open to empower those on their journey to hope, healing, and self-sufficiency. I am so incredibly proud of the work on behalf of those we serve at Prevail. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this organization, the mission, and the countless individuals we serve each day.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The stats are real: one in three women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence. Most of us know someone – a neighbor, a friend, or a loved one – who has been impacted by abuse or domestic violence. I ask that you break the silence! Violence will thrive when you stay silent!

Prevail is here to support victims and survivors and their children by raising awareness of this issue and creating environments that do not tolerate domestic violence. It is time to empower victims of abuse and domestic violence, and I ask for your commitment to our community to end domestic violence.

I would like to share a few facts with you regarding Prevail and domestic violence:

  • Prevail served over 3,100 clients last year, with 1,675 being primary victims of domestic violence.
  • Prevail served 218 children under the age of 18 because of domestic violence.
  • Prevail accompanied victims of domestic violence to court more than 400 times.
  • There were 4,251 calls to the Prevail 24/7 crisis line.
  • Over 1,179 safety plans were created.

I ask that you make a commitment to help end domestic violence, think about the collective impact you can have on those served by Prevail. This can be done through time, talent, and treasure. Get involved in one of many ways Prevail is highlighting Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

  • Participate in one of our partner events during October.
  • Like and share our social media posts to help spread the word.
  • Talk to family members and friends about healthy relationships.
  • Participate in Purple Thursday on Oct. 19 by wearing purple, posting a photo on social media, and tagging Prevail.
  • Consider a donation to Prevail, Inc.

I want to thank you for being a champion and friend to Prevail! At the end of the day, this is about the incredible mission and the work of Prevail. I appreciate you and ask that you GO Purple for Prevail for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
