Four swimmers from Fishers Area Swimming Tigers went to Florida over Spring Break to race some of the best swimmers in the country.
The most successful of the FAST swimmers was Gabriel Brown. The 9-year-old traveled to St. Petersburg to compete in the International Swim Coaches Association’s 2025 East Coast Elite Showcase, which took place April 2 to 5.
Brown won nine of 10 events in the 10 and under age group, which solidified him as the No. 1-ranked 9-year-old swimmer in the nation. Brown was the high point winner for 9 and under boys and set three meet records as well.
Here are the events Brown won: 50-yard backstroke (30.41 seconds), 100 breaststroke (1 minute, 18.09 seconds, swam 1:17.65 in the prelims), 100 individual medley (1:05.41), 50 butterfly (29.61 seconds, swam 29.53 seconds in the prelims), 200 freestyle (2:06.07), 100 backstroke (1:05.18), 100 freestyle (57.27 seconds), 200 IM (2:20.13) and 50 freestyle (26.57 seconds).
Brown also placed second in the 500 free (5:33.51). He scored 108 points for the FAST team, single-handedly placing them 35th out of 101 teams overall and 15th out of 75 boys teams.
FAST at the Open Water Championships
Grace Gannon, Brooklyn Rager, and Caden Askren also came to Florida to compete in the USA Swimming Open Water Junior National Championships, which took place April 4 to 6 in Sarasota.
Caden Askren had the highest place, finishing eighth to make the podium in the Men’s 7.5K JR National race. Askren’s time was 1 hour, 34 minutes, 37 seconds. Gannon placed 32nd in the Women’s 5K race, clocking in at 1:10.43. Rager finished 45th in the Women’s 5K, with a time of 1:17.09.
