Successful Sheridan sails past Southmont in away game

The Sheridan girls basketball team got another victory on Wednesday, beating Southmont 72-55 in an away game.

The Class 2A No. 11 Blackhawks had their offense rolling from the start, leading 23-15 after one quarter. Brielle Garner made three 3-pointers during the open period, while Kenzie Garner hit two triples on her way to eight points.

Sheridan led the Mounties 38-30 at halftime. Cecilia Timme dominated that quarter, scoring 10 points. The Blackhawks made another run in the third quarter, helping them to a 54-39 lead, then Sheridan finished the game with 18 fourth-quarter points. Kenzie Garner had eight points in the fourth and 14 in the second half.

Kenzie Garner led the way with 24 points, followed by Cecilia Timme with 23; both players scored in each quarter. Kenzie Garner finished with five 3s, while Brielle Garner also made five 3s for 15 points.

Kenzie Garner collected nine rebounds and made seven steals, while Cecilia Timme had eight rebounds, five steals, five assists and three blocked shots. Brielle Garner made four steals. Sadie Timme had nine rebounds, six steals, five points and five assists, while Mackenzie Smith pulled six rebounds.

Sheridan is now 20-1 for the season; the ‘Hawks have reached the 20-win mark for the second consecutive season. Sheridan also hit 20 wins during its 2014-15 campaign.

The Blackhawks finish the regular season Friday with a Hoosier Heartland Conference girls-boys doubleheader at Taylor.
