U.S. Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun and Governor Eric Holcomb last week announced a $70 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to complete the Interstate 465/Interstate 69 Clear Path 465 Project in Indianapolis.
“Indiana is known as the Crossroads of America for a reason, and our highways and byways are foundational to keeping our state competitive,” Sen. Young said. “I was pleased to help secure this grant which will bring a substantial investment to the Hoosier state to reduce travel times and improve safety at and around this important interchange.”

“I’m proud to have joined Senator Young and Governor Holcomb in securing this grant which will be used to modify interchanges and provide for new travel lanes around the I-465/I-69 junction in Indianapolis, making 465 safer and more efficient for Hoosiers and the thousands of motorists who travel through the Crossroads of America for business,” Sen. Braun said.
“The I-465/I-69 Clear Path project will make travel safer and more convenient for more than 100,000 motorists who travel through one of Indiana’s busiest interchanges daily,” Gov. Holcomb said. “I want to thank Senator Todd Young and Senator Mike Braun and all of our federal partners for joining with us to build on Indiana’s strong position as the Crossroads of America.”
The Clear Path 465 project includes the reconstruction and expansion of the I-465/I-69 system interchange northeast of Indianapolis, approximately 4.5 miles of mainline I-465 from the White River to Fall Creek, and approximately 0.8 miles of I-69 from I-465 to 82nd Street. Specifically, the project includes:
- I-465 re-alignment with additional auxiliary and ramp lanes as needed
- Improvements to three eastbound I-465 exits
- New ramp lanes from northbound I-465 to northbound I-69
- Additional lanes on Binford Boulevard
- Ramps to I-465/Binford Boulevard
- Eliminating the weave from southbound 82nd Street to Binford Boulevard (crossing southbound I-69 traffic)
- New ramp lanes on southbound I-69
- Southbound Binford Boulevard collector-distributor relocation.
The grant is expected to reduce travel times and improve safety on these heavily traveled highways. The INFRA grant is a highly competitive USDOT grant program. In this round, USDOT received 173 applications, requesting over $7.3 billion in grant funds.
