State Senator Mike Gaskill endorses Max Engling for Secretary of State

On Thursday, May 28, State Senator Mike Gaskill (R-Pendleton) announced his endorsement of Max Engling for Indiana Secretary of State.

Gaskill is chairman of the Senate Elections Committee, a position in which he works closely with the office of the Secretary of State.

Gaskill released the following statement explaining his endorsement:

“In Indiana, the Secretary of State is the chief election official. Now more than ever, we must diligently work to maintain and further strengthen the integrity of our elections. Once the legislature enacts good election policy to accomplish this goal, it is up to the Secretary of State to execute that policy. In my view, Max Engling is not only the best Republican candidate to administer election policy, but also to lead the office’s other functions as well. Max’s previous experience both inside and outside of government make him uniquely qualified to lead this department of state government. I encourage Republican convention delegates to join me in voting to nominate Max as our candidate for Secretary of State at the state Republican convention next month.”

When asked why he chose not to endorse incumbent Republican Secretary of State Diego Morales, Gaskill said, “I have found Secretary Morales to be very supportive of the legislature’s election policy over the past three years, and I am grateful to him for that. In the administration of his office, however, he has made numerous errors in judgement that will hinder his ability to execute that policy in the future. Furthermore, these missteps will make it difficult for him to be re-elected if nominated. With this in mind, Republicans simply cannot take the risk of losing the office to the Democrats by renominating Secretary Morales. This would jeopardize many of the election safeguards and integrity measures that we have worked so hard to enact.”

Gaskill publicly thanks Secretary Morales for his service to the state and the Indiana Republican party, and he wishes all the best to Morales and his family in their future endeavors.
