Indianapolis-area Democratic lawmakers are inviting the Hoosier State’s best and brightest college students and recent graduates to apply for a paid internship at the Indiana Statehouse for the 2023 Legislative Session, which begins in January.
Indiana House Democrats are now accepting applications for six internship programs that immerse students and graduates in state government while providing valuable hands-on experience. When applying, applicants can choose from the following internship opportunities:
- Legislative and Constituent Services
- Policy Analyst
- Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC)
- Communications
- Ways and Means Fiscal Analyst
- Graphic and Print Design
“Giving students an opportunity to explore career pathways before they graduate is a great way to prepare them to enter the workforce. An internship with House Democrats does just that,” Rep. Ed DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) said. “Any student interested in public service or becoming part of the Democratic talent pipeline should apply.”
“The House Democrats’ paid internship program is a great way for young professionals to gain civic experience and make lasting connections,” Rep. Blake Johnson (D-Indianapolis) said. “Students are the future of our workforce and offer fresh perspective to the caucus throughout each legislative session. I look forward to working alongside this year’s intern class and seeing the valuable contributions they will make to our state’s lawmakers.”
“This next upcoming session is a budget session, so our Ways and Means Fiscal Analyst internship will be packed with action for any college student interested in public finance and the process of developing the 2023 Indiana state budget,” Rep. Gregory W. Porter (D-Indianapolis) said. “Additionally, students interested in collaborating with my office should also apply for the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus internship and Legislative and Constituent Services internship. I know students will find it engaging and fulfilling to contribute to the 123rd meeting of the Indiana General Assembly.”
“Before I became a state representative, I was an intern here at the Statehouse,” Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis) said. “My time as an intern gave me valuable insight into how government works and paved the way for me to make a difference in the Hoosier State as a representative. Interns are a vital part of the Legislative Session. I would encourage any student interested in politics to apply for our internship programs.”
“The internships with the Indiana House Democrats are a great way to learn the ins-and-outs of state government,” Rep. Robin Shackleford (D-Indianapolis), who is also chair of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity that will benefit college students whether they continue in politics or not.”
“Being an intern here at the Statehouse gives students the chance to not only work in local government, but to experience a fast-paced work environment that is challenging and rewarding,” Rep. Vanessa Summers (D-Indianapolis) said.
