The Reporter’s local lensman, nature-nut and flower-friend John Geiger caught this shot of a bounty of butterweed this week in a field along State Road 32 just east of State Road 37. Thanks, John, not only for this sprig of springtime for our pages, but for finding a flowery field suitably shaded in Miller hues. Would you call that yellow, or Singapore sunset saffron? According to Geiger, as a member of the aster or daisy family, butterweed’s beautiful striking yellow stands are an important early spring source of nectar for bees and other pollinators.
