The Ice at Center Green will hold an afternoon for special needs kids from 2 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26. Free admission and skate rental will be offered for families with a member who has a special need that would benefit from a low-sensory environment.
During this time, wheel chairs will be allowed on the ice. In addition, five “ice walker supports” will be available to share. There will be no music played through the public speaker system.
In order to provide a quality experience for these families, the ice will be closed to the general public. Guardians must accompany special needs kids on the ice rink.
“We know that there are many families who were not able to experience The Ice at Center Green because of certain special needs. We want to provide the type of atmosphere and accommodations that will expand this facility to them,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.
