Southeastern has no trouble winning both games at Loggan Memorial Invitational

Hamilton Southeastern’s girls won both of their games in the Paul Loggan Memorial Invitational this week.

The Class 4A No. 2 Royals opened play Thursday with a 59-41 win over Decatur Central. Southeastern led 18-9 after one quarter and 31-17 at halftime, then poured in another 17 points in the third period.

Maya Makalusky had a dominant game with 28 points (including three 3-pointers), six rebounds and four blocked shots. Kennedy Holman added 16 points and also collected six rebounds, dished out six assists and made four steals. Kayla Stidham handed out six assists and got three blocks, while Zoe Lawless had five rebounds.

The Royals returned to North Central on Friday and beat the Panthers 69-61. It was a back-and-forth game in the first half: Southeastern led 23-9 after one quarter, but North Central outscored the Royals 20-8 in the second period, cutting HSE’s lead to 31-29 at halftime. The Royals put together another huge third quarter, scoring 27 points for a 58-42 lead and held on from there.

Makalusky earned a double-double of 27 points (including four 3s) and 11 rebounds. Holman had an outstanding game with 26 points, five assists and five steals. Van Hoesen pulled six rebounds.

Southeastern is 14-1 and hosts Warren Central on Thursday.
