The Hamilton Southeastern girls soccer will have some new players on the field this year, but they won’t necessarily be inexperienced.

Royals coach Greg Davidson said that 14 players on his team return with varsity experience. Southeastern graduated a large senior class last year, but has a sizable senior class this season, with 10 players on the list.

That includes two seniors, Tatum Coleman and Caroline Kelley. Those two are the Royals’ leading scorers returning from the previous season, with both getting All-State honors.

Davidson said his team “played well” in a national tournament in Ohio over the summer, and although Southeastern graduated eight starters “and are young, we are coming together nicely,” he said.

The Royals begin their season Saturday morning against a very tough opponent: Carmel, last year’s Class 3A state runner-up. Southeastern then plays at Franklin Central on Wednesday to begin competition in the always tough Hoosier Crossroads Conference.

“Been biting at the bit to get the season started with this new exciting group at HSE,” said Davidson.
