Hamilton Southeastern give Brownsburg a tough battle Friday at the Bulldogs’ field, before dropping a 21-14 Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
The Bulldogs (Class 6A No. 1 AP/No. 3 IFCA) scored the only touchdown of the first half, a one-yard run by Jake Dunn. The Royals, ranked No. 4 in both polls, tied the game early in the third quarter after Chandler Weston sent a 30-yard touchdown throw to Dylan James. Hugo Belmonte made the extra-point kick, and the score was 7-7.
Garrett Sherrell put Brownsburg in the lead with a 19-yard touchdown run, then struck again early in the fourth quarter with a six-yard rush to the end zone. That gave the Bulldogs a 21-7 lead. Weston throw a 25-yard scoring pass to Donovan Hamilton midway through the fourth, and Belmonte’s kick cut the Brownsburg lead to seven, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on.
Weston went 10-of-20 for 149 yards, with Hamilton getting five receptions for 80 yards. Jalen Alexander led the rushing with 104 yards.
Southeastern finished HCC play 5-2 and is 7-2 overall. The Royals travel to Fort Wayne Northrop on Oct. 27 to begin play in Class 6A Sectional 4.
