Softball: Tigers run away with Mudsock game

The Fishers softball team ran away with the Mudsock game on Tuesday, taking control in the later innings for a 10-2 win over Hamilton Southeastern in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference contest.
The Royals took an early lead when Ava Aguilar hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Southeastern added another run in the third inning; Aguilar scored again when Jenna Chase doubled her home.
The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the third on a two-run homer by Kaylee Kardash. Sophie Schoch, who led off the inning with a single, also scored. The game would be tied at 2-2 until the fifth inning, when Hannah Mays cracked a three-run homer run, also sending home Schoch and Kardash.
Fishers continued to play long in the sixth inning, hitting three homers. Olivia Latimer hit the first one, a two-run homer that also sent Maggie Weber home. Kardash delivered her second home run of the game minutes later, with Schoch also scoring. Mays came up next and smacked her second homer of the game.
Kardash and Mays both totaled four RBIs, with Schoch and Kardash each getting three hits and scoring three runs. Mays pitched a complete game, striking out 12.
Aguilar was 3-for-4 for HSE, while Jenna Chase was 2-for-3. Chase also pitched a complete game, tossing five strikeouts.
On Monday, Fishers dropped a 3-1 game at Yorktown. Fishers scored its run in the fourth inning, with Kardash getting home on a single by Emily Walsh. Yorktown held Fishers to only two hits; Olivia Latimer hit a double for Fishers’ other hit.
Fishers is 7-4 for the season, while Southeastern is 5-9.

Noblesville beat Westfield 18-8 in a six-inning all-county and HCC game Tuesday at the Shamrocks’ field.
The Millers scored the game’s first run in the second inning, when Cameron Grayson doubled home Ella White. Noblesville extended its lead to 5-0 after three innings; Lauren DeRolf blasted a three-run double, then was sent home by Gabby Fowler’s sacrifice fly.
In the fourth inning, the Millers kept things rolling with four straight RBI hits. Myah Stuckey singled in Lydia Nelson-Mercer, Rylie Newcomer scored on a passed ball, then Aidan Gates batted Stuckey home with a single. Abby Harvey cracked a triple into right field to score Gates, and DeRolf picked up another RBI with a single to send Harvey home.
At that point, Noblesville led 10-0. But Westfield came back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring seven runs. Natalie Deck got the first run, then Grace Fanelli scored on Cara Snedeker’s RBI fielder’s choice. Victoria Pucci was the next runner to score, coming in on Maggie Roh’s RBI fielder’s choice.
Avery Parker singled in Snedeker, then Roh and Parker scored when Deck reached on error. Brooklyn Carey then got home on an error, and the ‘Rocks were within 10-7.
But the Millers would let Westfield get no closer, scoring four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Newcomer hit a fifth-inning home run that also got Ella White home, then Harvey singled in Kira Thomas and Bella Schatko.
In the sixth inning, White led off with a double, then went home immediately after Grayson hit a homer. Newcomer followed that with another home run. DeRolf later hit a sacrifice fly to score Scout Duplaga. The Shamrocks got one more run in the bottom of the sixth, when Parker hit a solo homer to right field.
Harvey and Grayson both hit 3-for-4 and totaled three RBIs, while DeRolf batted in five runs. Newcomer was 2-for-2 and drove on three runs. Grayson threw a complete game, tossing seven strikeouts.
Parker and Deck each had two hits for the Shamrocks, with Parker totaling two RBIs.
Noblesville is 8-4 for the season, while Westfield is 5-8.

In another all-county game, Westfield beat Sheridan 12-1 in six innings on Monday.
The Shamrocks began with two solo home runs in the first inning, one from Avery Parker and another from Natalie Deck. Maggie Roh and Parker both added runs in the third inning to give Westfield a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth innings, the ‘Rocks exploded for six runs. Cara Snedeker scored Zoey Watson with a bunt fielder’s choice, then later scored on a single from Parker. Reghan Oland got home to make the lead 7-0, then Brooklyn Carey blasted a three-run homer, also sending Roh and Parker home.
The Blackhawks scored their run in the fourth inning when Addyson Ream got home on a passed ball. Westfield added two more runs in the sixth inning; Parker scored on Deck’s RBI groundout, then Victoria Pucci singled in Carey.
Parker finished the game 3-for-3, while Carey was 2-for-3. Both batted in three runs. Ream was 2-for-3 at the plate for Sheridan.

Westfield split a Saturday doubleheader with Kokomo.
The Shamrocks won the first game 10-8. Westfield trailed 8-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but began a comeback when Parker hit a three-run home run, then Deck scored on a wild pitch. Zoey Watson ended the game with a walkoff three-run homer.
Victoria Pucci had three hits, with Brooklyn Carey getting two.
Westfield dropped the second game 7-5. Pucci had three hits, including a triple, while Parker and Carey each had two hits.

Carmel’s Paxton Law threw a no-hitter, Kylie Cunningham had an outstanding performance at the plate, and all that helped the Greyhounds to a big Metropolitan Conference win on Tuesday.
Carmel beat Lawrence Central 20-1 in a five-inning game at the Cherry Tree Softball Complex. Law gave up no hits during the game, allowing only four walks.
Cunningham smacked two home runs, totaling six RBIs for the game and scoring three runs. Cunningham hit a two-run homer in the second inning, then cracked a three-run home run in the third inning.
Ella Greenawald and Caroline Roop both hit a home run during the game, while Ella Ohrvall had two doubles in a 2-for-2 night, also scoring two runs. Megan Nichols went 3-for-3 at the plate, and Greenawald was 2-for-3 and drove in four runs, including three with her third-inning homer. Roop’s two-run home run came in the first inning.
The Greyhounds are 7-6 for the season.

Guerin Catholic kept its record perfect early this week with two overwhelming victories.
On Monday, the Class 3A No. 3 Golden Eagles cruised past Warren Central 15-1. Alicia Flores was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, hitting three doubles and a single. Flores and Aliyay Dorsey both batted in three runs. Lucy Schenk and Ana Macha both were 3-for-4, while Sarah Dilley scored three runs. Flores pitched a complete-game victory, striking out 14 and allowing one hit.
Guerin Catholic then overwhelmed Lafayette Central Catholic 21-0 on Tuesday. Izzy Kemp pitched another no-hitter, striking out 15 and issuing just two walks.
Kemp was 2-for-3 at the plate, including a home run, drove in four runs and scored three. Kirsten Mascari went 3-for-4, batting in four runs, while Macha went 5-for-5, scoring four runs and batting in two more.
The Golden Eagles are 9-0 for the season.

Hamilton Heights dropped a 16-4 Hoosier Conference game at Northwestern in five innings on Tuesday.
The Huskies scored two runs in both the first and second innings. Alayna Baber hit a first-inning double, then was sent home by a home run from Hayley Greene.
The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the first, but Heights added a pair of runs right away: Claire Cooper scored after Greene reached on error, then Sydney Massicotte drew a bases-loaded walk to send Kaylee Rhoton home. The Huskies now led 4-2, but Northwestern scored five runs in the bottom of the second and stayed in front from there.
Baber finished the game with two hits.
