Softball sectionals: Huskies earn easy win over Brebeuf Jesuit, Sheridan falls to Cascade

The Hamilton Heights softball team cruised to victory in its Class 3A Sectional 27 semifinal game Tuesday at Bishop Chatard.

The defending sectional champion Huskies beat Brebeuf Jesuit 12-0 in six innings. Heights scored five runs in the second inning, with back-to-back RBI doubles from Melanee Forrester and Addie Doak, then a two-run home run from Lily Cash.

Doak hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to score Isabel Morrow, then Lily Roush scored in the fifth inning. The Huskies added five more runs in the sixth inning, including a two-run homer by Kassidy Schakel.

Doak was 3-for-3 at the plate and one of five players to hit a double. Roush, Forrester, Morrow and Kamryn Rhoton also hit a double. Roush pitched all six innings, striking out 12 and allowing just one hit.

Heights improved to 20-7 after the win, setting a new record for season victories. The Huskies will play in the Sectional 27 championship Thursday, facing the winner of today’s game between Guerin Catholic and Bishop Chatard.

Sheridan fell to host Cascade Tuesday in the first round of Class 2A Sectional 43.

The No. 1-ranked Cadets beat the Blackhawks 13-0 in five innings. Shelby Eaton had two hits for Sheridan, who finished its season 2-18.
