Softball: Millers stay perfect after beating LN

The Noblesville softball team kept its perfect record intact on Friday, beating Lawrence North 11-1 in a six-inning home game.

The Millers led 5-0 after five innings, then put up six runs in the sixth inning. Addi Emmerson smacked a three-run double, then Bella Hughes cracked a double to bring in Emmerson and give Noblesville a 10-1 lead. Nevaeh Nash hit a center field single to score Hughes to end the game.

Delaney Rundle went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs; Reese Newsom batted Rundle home in the first inning. Izzy Zapp and Nash both had two hits, while Hughes totaled two RBIs. Zapp, Rundle, Newsom and Brookelyn Grayson all scored two runs.

Addison Retzinger pitched a complete game, striking out 14 and only allowing two hits and one walk.

Noblesville is 5-0 and plays a doubleheader at Bloomington North today. The first game starts at 11 a.m.

Carmel took New Palestine, last year’s Class 4A state runner-up, to extra innings on Friday before the host Dragons won 4-3 in nine innings.

New Palestine scored three runs in the third inning. The Greyhounds got two runs in the fourth inning when Ellie Goddard smacked a triple into left field, scoring Megan Pike and Winni Owens.

Goddard batted in the tying run in the sixth inning, sending Mia Fleming home with a center field hit. The score stayed at 3-3 until the bottom of the ninth inning, when the Dragons hit an RBI single for the walk-off win.

Goddard, Fleming and Jayden Kleiner all had two hits. Keira Libel pitched a complete game for the ‘Hounds, striking out two.

Carmel is 1-10 and plays a doubleheader today at Columbus North. The first game starts at 10 a.m.

Sheridan dropped a 16-9 home game to Cardinal Ritter on Friday.

The Raiders scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Blackhawks responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Sheridan loaded the bases, then Norah Adams was hit by a pitch, scoring Mac Smith. Adria Jump stole home plate, then Abbi Merritt got home when Ali Pickard drew a bases-loaded walk. Adams scored after Lainey Mendenhall drew a walk.

Ritter tied the game in the third inning, but Sheridan scored two in the bottom of the third for a 6-4 lead. Adams hit a single, Amiyah Doss cracked a center field double, then both got home on a Mendenhall base hit.

The Raiders put up six runs in the top of the fifth to lead 10-6. Sheridan got back three of those runs in the bottom of the inning. Adams sent a double into left field and scored on Pickard’s RBI groundout. Mendenhall singled in Doss, then later scored on an Abby Dallas RBI groundout. The ‘Hawks were within 10-9, but Ritter scored six runs in the seventh inning to clinch the win.

Adams and Mendenhall both had two hits, with Mendenhall totaling four RBIs. Adams pitched 6.1 innings, striking out 10.

Sheridan is 0-3 and plays Monday at Covenant Christian.
