Softball: Heights plays Brebeuf Jesuit today in sectional semifinals, Guerin Catholic & Sheridan both finish their seasons

The Hamilton Heights softball team easily advanced to the semifinals at Class 3A Sectional 27 at Bishop Chatard Monday, beating Shortridge 22-0 in five innings.

The Huskies put up 11 runs in the first inning, added two more in the second and third, and put up another seven in the fifth inning. Hailey Hall and Morgan Ottinger both had three hits, while Hall and Lily Roush both hit one double.

Lily Cash and Isabel Morrow both had two hits. Cash drove in four runs, with Hall totaling three RBIs. Natalie Vann, Ottinger and Natalie Newman all had two RBIs. Hall, Roush and Kaylee Rhoton all scored three runs, with Kassidy Schakel and Ottinger both scoring two. Cash pitched all five innings, striking out 11 and allowing just one hit and no walks.

Heights is 17-8 and plays Brebeuf Jesuit at 5 p.m. today in the sectional semifinals.

Guerin Catholic played Tuesday at the Bishop Chatard sectional, and lost to the host Trojans 13-2 in six innings.

Lucy Kemp hit a home run for the Golden Eagles in the first inning. But Chatard scored six runs in the second inning, and added runs in each of the subsequent innings. Guerin Catholic got another run in the second inning when Kemp doubled in Lauren Brady..

Natalie Eiler also had two hits for the Golden Eagles, who finished their season 2-15.

Sheridan won its first-round Class 2A Sectional 43 game at Cascade on Monday, beating Cardinal Ritter 23-5 in five innings.

The Blackhawks put up 19 runs in the first inning. Emma Settles was 4-for-4 at the plate, including a double. Chaney Smith and Mariana Lopez both had three hits, with one of Lopez’s hits a triple. Jacquellynne Bates, Abbi Merritt, Ashlynn Tryon and Shelby Eaton all had two hits, including a double for Bates and a triple for Eaton.

Bates drove in five runs, with Lopez batting in four. Eaton totaled three RBIs, while Smith and Settles each drove in two runs. Bates, Smith, Claudia Headlee and Settles all scored three runs, and Lopez, Merritt, Tryon, Eaton and Kennedy Zachary all scored two. Maelei Casler pitched three innings for the win, not allowing a hit.

In Tuesday’s semifinals, Sheridan lost to Covenant Christian 11-0. Smith had two hits, including a double, and Eaton also hit a double.

The Blackhawks finished their season 4-25.
