Softball: GC finishes conference play with win

Guerin Catholic scored a Circle City Conference win over Covenant Christian 8-3 on Wednesday at the Golden Eagles’ field.
With the win, Guerin Catholic finished conference play 3-2. The Golden Eagles scored in four of the first five innings, two runs in each inning.
Ana Macha scored the first run, getting home on Aliyah Dorsey’s sacrifice fly. Alicia Flores then lined a single into center field, scoring Madelyn Buckner.
In the second inning, Kirsten Mascari smacked a two-run home run, also getting Elizabeth DiBlasio home. Guerin next scored in the fourth inning, with Macha batting in Hanna Bills, and Buckner’s right field single scoring Mascari.
Izzy Kemp finished GC’s scoring in a big way, smacking a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Megan Powers also scored.
“Good day for the girls,” said Golden Eagles coach Jeff Buckner. “They’ve been battling all year. We’re 10-5 now. Different people step up all the time. Alicia and Izzy on the mound have just been fantastic.”
Buckner and Mascari each had three hits, with Macha getting two hits. Flores pitched three and two-thirds innings for the win, with Kemp coming in to get the save.
Guerin Catholic hosts Fishers at 5:30 p.m. today.

Huskies rout Cass, earn conference sweep

Hamilton Heights completed a Hoosier Conference sweep of Lewis Cass on Wednesday, beating the Kings 13-3 in an away game.
The Huskies scored one run in the first inning, with Bayleigh Runner getting home after Isabella Neiling reached on error. Hayley Greene hit a two-run single in the second inning, bringing in Meredith Diller and Runner.
Heights scored five runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Ashlyn Fletcher singled in Sydney Buffum, Runner doubled home Fletcher, and Greene batted in Runner. Neiling hit a left field home run to score Alayna Baber, getting the Huskies ahead 8-3.
Greene batted in the first run of the fifth inning for Heights, scoring Runner. Neiling singled in Alayna Baber, then Greene and Adyson Baber were sent home on a fielder’s choice from Sydney Massicotte. Neiling scored on Diller’s RBI grondout.
Runner and Greene both were 3-for-4 at the plate, with Neiling and Diller each getting two hits. Runner hit a double. Kelsie Albright pitched all four innings for the win.
The Huskies are 3-11 and host Yorktown at 5:30 p.m. today.

Blackhawks take care of Taylor

Sheridan took care of Taylor 8-4 in a Wednesday game at Biddle Park.
The Blackhawks got on the board in the second inning: Jayden Warren scored on an error, then Mia Brooks got home on a fielder’s choice by Katy Crail.
In the third inning, Warren cracked a double to center field, sending Caitlin Neese home. Taylor Bates scored after Breanna Bouse reached on error, then Warren scored on Allie Delph’s RBI groundout. Crail singled in Riley Reed to get Sheridan up 6-0.
The ‘Hawks added two more runs in the fifth inning. Warren singled home Kayla Beahrs, then Reed scored Neese on a fielder’s choice.
Warren was 3-for-4 at the plate, with Addyson Ream, Bates and Delph all getting two hits. Bouse pitched three and two-thirds innings for the win.
Sheridan is 6-3 and hosts Clinton Prairie at 5 p.m. today.

Tigers fall to Yorktown

Fishers dropped a 15-7 game at Yorktown on Thursday. The game ended after five innings.
The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Hannah Mays drove in Brooke Benson with a single for the first run. Caroline Bernhardt doubled in Mays, then Kaylee Kardash hit a double to score Olivia Latimer and Bernhardt.
Yorktown got on the board with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, then added three more runs in the second to take a 6-4 lead. Fishers took the lead back in the top of the third: Benson scored on Latimer’s sacrifice fly, then Mays and Bernhardt got home when Olivia Stinson reached on error.
That put the Tigers up 7-6. But Yorktown took control in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs. Mays, Bernhardt and Kardash all had two hits.
Fishers is 9-5 and plays at 5:30 p.m. today at Guerin Catholic.
