The Fishers Tigers took advantage of a couple of big innings at the plate to seal the win on Monday night over the visiting Kokomo Wildkats.
Kate Murray did it both with her pitching and hitting en route to a 9-3 victory over Kokomo.
The bottom of the fourth started off with three singles in a row, followed by a double from Brooke Johnson to make it 2-0.
Kendall Jordan drove in Johnson with a single and it was 3-0. Murray would help finish off the scoring in the fourth with a three-run home run for a 6-0 Tiger lead.
Kokomo hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit in half at 6-3.
The Tigers decided to put up a three-spot themselves in the last of the sixth.
Jenna Grubb smacked a two-run double to drive in Murray and Hailey Kinder for an 8-3 count. Fishers topped off its scoring for the game with an RBI single by Sophie Schoch for the final of 9-3.
Royals’ comeback falls short at home against Marauders
Mt. Vernon made its short trip worthwhile on Monday evening and it wouldn’t be an easy task, but the Marauders were able to upend the previously unbeaten Royals 9-8.
The Marauders got started right away with a solo home run for an early 1-0 edge, but that didn’t last long.
HSE struck back in the home half of the first with a pair of runs on a Payton Fox two-run blast that also scored Addy Justice, giving the host Royals the lead, 2-1.
The visitors would score twice in each the third and fourth innings to move ahead 5-2 through four frames.
And again, they would produce four more runs to go up 9-2, completely stunning the Royals.
The Royals weren’t done scoring, as it would put up one last valiant effort in the bottom of the seventh with a six-run output.
It wouldn’t quite be enough as Mt. Vernon’s four-run sixth became the demise, giving the Royals their lone loss so far this season.
