In an all-county boys soccer game on Tuesday, Class 1A No. 2 University beat Hamilton Heights 3-0 at the Huskies field.

Sam Ricketts and Tayato Yusada both scored goals in the first half for the Trailblazers. Constantine Stefanidis added another goal in the second half. University was coming off a big win over Park Tudor Saturday for the Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference championship, so the ‘Blazers avoided a letdown.

“That was one of the big things we talked about pre-match, coming off that euphoria of a massive match,” said University coach Alex Baumgart. The coach said the team has “a lot of boys that still wanted to prove themselves and it wound up working out for us.”

“Throughout the season, we’ve been pretty stout offensively,” said Huskies coach Drew Colvin. “And we just didn’t get any finishes tonight. Defensively, we played decent, we let down three times and just didn’t stay marked. It was a good effort. I think they controlled the middle of the field the majority of the time. We just have to get back into our shape again.”

The Trailblazers are 9-2-2 and host Greenwood Christian Academy this afternoon. Heights is 8-6-1 and hosts Western on Thursday.

Hamilton Heights girls team hosted a first-round Hoosier Conference tournament game Tuesday on the Huskies’ turf field. Heights beat Tipton 5-0.

The 2A No. 13 Huskies led 3-0 at halftime, with Cassidy Felger scoring the first two goals and Sarah Toll adding the third. Ella Hickok and Toll both scored second-half goals.

“I’m happy with our control of the game,” said Heights coach Travis Kauffman. “Our offensive possession was pretty dominant and that’s what we wanted to see. We certainly had to work for goals. They’re not given to us. And I was glad to see us working, but also defensively to keep the ball, to keep pressure on their defense.

The Huskies are 10-2-1 and play 2A No. 19 Northwestern Thursday in the tournament semi-finals. The site of the game is yet to be determined.
