The Westfield boys soccer team went on the road Thursday to Brebeuf Jesuit and came home with a 2-1 victory.
The Shamrocks scored both of their goals in the first half. Senior Miguel Ayala got the first goal, kicking the ball into the top corner of the net from the top of the goal box. Later, junior Ben Wallace received a ball from Ayala and hit a left-footed shot into the side of the net. The Shamrocks defense held strong, with sophomore goalkeeper Bennett Paison giving a solid effort.
Westfield plays Noblesville Tuesday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
Hamilton Heights’ boys fell to Kokomo 3-1 on Thursday.
The Wildkats scored a goal in the first half, then went up 2-0 six minutes into the second half. The Huskies got on the board with 30 minutes left when Luke Vanderwall scored, but Kokomo got another goal later for the final margin.
“The Huskies played some great minutes moving the ball, working from side to side, and possessing,” said Heights coach Derrick Dean. “They just couldn’t convert and get it in the net.”
Vanderwall was the Huskies’ player of the game. Freshman goalkeeper Jackson McCullough recorded five saves.
Sheridan’s girls dropped a 7-1 game to Western Boone on Thursday.
The Blackhawks were playing their third game in three days. Sheridan trailed 3-0 at halftime, but got on the board in the second half. Makaela Mosolf took a free kick that hit the crossbar, and Clair Purciful was there to finish the play and score her first career goal.
The ‘Hawks host Faith Christian on Tuesday.
