Soccer: Heights girls keep perfect record intact

The Hamilton Heights girls soccer team kept its perfect record intact Thursday with a big 9-0 win over Kokomo at the Huskies’ field.
Cassidy Felger scored Class 2A No. 8 Heights’ first goal eight minutes into the game. That started an avalanche, as the Huskies led 6-0 at halftime. Kyndall Ferguson scored two goals, with Jayla Logan and Addyson Ferguson providing assists, then Emma Hall scored two goals of her own, assisted by Ferguson and Ella Hickok. Felger then put in her second goal to finish the first-half scoring; Hall made the assist.
Jayla Logan put in two second-half goals, one of which was off a Hall corner kick. Lizzy Smith assisted the other goal. Smith then scored the ninth goal, which finished the game.
Heights is 9-0 for the season and plays Saturday at Frankfort.

Carmel’s boys team, ranked No. 11 in 3A, won a Metropolitan Conference game at Lawrence Central 2-0 on Thursday.
Junior Braeden Thomson scored both of the Greyhounds’ goals, with sophomore Connor Dora and senior AJ Caito making the assists.
“I am proud of how we kept our shape tonight,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “I felt our possession and movement of and off the ball was very effective.”
The ‘Hounds are 4-2-1 and host 3A No. 18 Columbus North tonight for their Pack the House/Make Good Decisions game.

The Carmel girls team, rated No. 3 in 3A, also picked up a MIC win over Lawrence Central Thursday, cruising to a 7-0 victory at Murray Stadium.
Emily Roper and Sophie Shepherd both scored two goals, with Luci Bair, Claire Swigart and Olivia Cebalo all scoring one. Greta Heyl and Rylie Wilpolt both had two assists, while Tammy Smith and Clare Simmonds both dished out one assist. Four of the six assists came from defenders.
The Greyhounds are 4-0 in the MIC and 8-1-1 overall. Carmel plays at 3A No. 7 North Central on Monday in another conference battle.

Guerin Catholic’s girls team, ranked No. 20 in 3A, cruised past 1A No. 3 Heritage Christian 9-0 in a Thursday Circle City Conference game.
Katie Koger scored the Golden Eagles’ first goal, then Sutton Worman made it 2-0 off an assist by Alyssa Ferry. Koger then added two more goals to make it 4-0; Emersen Jennings assisted the fourth goal. Hailey Abel scored GC’s fifth goal, then CeCe Leffler put in a free kick to give Guerin Catholic a 6-0 lead.
Alex Soucie opened the second-half scoring with the Golden Eagles’ seventh goal. Koger then scored her fourth goal of the game by heading in a corner kick by Mia Gatz. Annabel Wright finished the game by scoring Guerin’s ninth goal.
The Golden Eagles are 4-1 in conference play and 4-2-1 overall. Guerin Catholic is off until next Saturday, Sept. 18, when it plays at Evansville Memorial.

Tommy Hartman scored two goals for the Golden Eagles, with Peter Hall and Keegan Perhacs each adding one goal. Goalkeepers Alex Gardner and Luke Cloran combined for the shutout.
On Wednesday, Guerin won a lightning-shortened CCC match with Roncalli 2-1. Evan Miller and Perhacs scored one goal each. The Golden Eagles now hold a 4-0 record in conference play.
Guerin Catholic is 6-1 and plays at Cathedral on Tuesday.

University’s girls beat International 4-3 in a Wednesday Pioneer Conference game.
The Trailblazers play at Greenwood Christian on Monday in another PAAC game.
