The Sheridan boys soccer team played two games to begin the week.
On Monday, the Blackhawks sailed past Taylor 6-0. Senior Will Zachery and junior Kyle Eden each scored three goals, while senior goalkeeper Nick Roberts made seven saves. It was the second shutout of the season for the Sheridan defense.
On Tuesday, the ‘Hawks hosted North Montgomery and played to a 1-1 tie. The Chargers scored four minutes before halftime, but Eden evened the score with one minute to go in the half. Both teams then played strong defense in the second half.
Sheridan assistant coach Cassie Rossman said that junior Corbin Murray was the team MVP for both games with great communication and the directions of the Blackhawks’ defense.
Sheridan hosts Crawfordsville on Thursday evening for the Senior Night game.
Fishers picked up a 2-0 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win over Brownsburg on Tuesday.
Noah Reinhart got the Tigers’ first goal, kicking in the ball in from a few feet outside the box in the 23rd minute. Lay Day scored in the 31st minute for Fishers’ second goal.
Hamilton Southeastern and Westfield played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday.
Both goals were scored in the second half. The Shamrocks got the first one, as junior Jordan Donsky took a free kick that was won just outside the penalty box by senior Miguel Ayala, who then connected into the top corner of the far post.
The Class 3A No. 11 Royals answered later in the half. Kam Greenwald sent the ball to Isa Sayeed, who scored to tie the game.
Guerin Catholic played to a 2-2 tie with Cathedral on Monday.
Tommy Hartman scored both goals for the Class 2A No. 3 Golden Eagles in the first half. The Irish got the tie by making the equalizer on a free kick in the final minutes of the game.
Carmel played to a 1-1 tie with 3A No. 2 North Central in a Tuesday Metropolitan Conference game.
Jackson Monsey scored the Greyhounds’ goal, with Drew Finkam making the assist.
“I am super proud of the effort the guys gave tonight,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “It was a very physical and well-played game on both sides. We are going to get back to training tomorrow and prepare for the next two games this week.”
The ‘Hounds host Warren Central on Thursday.
Noblesville fell to 3A No. 1 Zionsville 4-2 on Tuesday.
The Eagles scored three goals in the first half, but the 3A No. 9 Millers got one back by the end of the first half, with Palmer Ault getting a score.
Zionsville added another goal in the second half. Noblesville also got another goal, as Drew Barnes got the ball in during the 78th minute.
Hamilton Heights dropped a 2-0 Tuesday game to Bishop Chatard.
“Even with battling several injuries the Huskies players played and battled hard this evening,” said Huskies coach Derrick Dean. “They moved the ball and had several great opportunities they just couldn’t find the back of the net.”
Jackson McCullough made 13 saves as goalkeeper.
“Player of the game goes to Hunter Toll as he has stepped in for the injured Caleb Stuart and has really played some great defense,” said Dean.
GIRLS GAMES
Westfield upset 2A No. 1 Cathedral 2-0 on Monday.
High defensive pressure from the Shamrocks’ Amiah Sprunger caused the Irish to make an own goal in the first half. Lauren Macdonald then scored in the second half.
“The Rocks played a very solid game,” said Westfield coach Hannah Mangus.
The Shamrocks play at 3A No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern tonight.
Carmel, ranked No. 3 in 3A, cruised past 3A No. 18 North Central 6-0 on Monday.
Kelsie James, Emma Antoine and Susie Soderstrom all had two goals for the Greyhounds, who remain undefeated in the MIC at 5-0. Morgan Parker made three assists, while Soderstrom had one.
Carmel plays another MIC game tonight, hosting Warren Central at Murray Stadium. The ‘Hounds are 8-0-2 overall.
Hamilton Heights, ranked No. 20 in 2A, picked up a 5-1 win Tuesday at Marion.
The Huskies scored two goals in the first half. Jenna Peterson found Emily Stirn for a one-touch goal, then Keri Townsend hit a cross that got into the goal.
Heights scored its third goal 31 seconds into the second half, with Emma Hall putting it in the net. Stirn scored the fourth goal, and Townsend got the fifth goal, with Peterson making that assist. Huskies goalkeeper Tessa Harr made eight saves.
Heights is 5-1-3 and plays at 2A No. 4 Bishop Chatard on Thursday.
Guerin Catholic played to a 1-1 draw Monday at Avon.
Both goals were scored in the first half. The Golden Eagles got their goal when senior Anna Heck made a corner kick to junior Caroline Quinn, who finished the score.
Guerin Catholic plays at 3A No. 2 Evansville Memorial on Saturday.
Sheridan fell to North Montgomery 6-0 on Tuesday.
“Katie Cuevas had a very good game in the defense, she kept North Montgomery from adding to their total by clearing a few shots on the goal line,” said Blackhawks coach Brian Prange. “Makaela Mosolf did a good job controlling the midfield and served many balls in the help the Blackhawks earn shots on goal in the second half.”
Sheridan hosts Crawfordsville on Thursday.
