Soccer: Carmel girls clinch MIC championship

The Carmel girls soccer team, ranked No. 3 in 3A, clinched the Metropolitan Conference championship after playing to a 2-2 tie with 3A No. 9 Center Grove on Wednesday.
All of the goals were scored in the second half, with the Trojans getting the first goal two minutes into the half. The Greyhounds scored around 20 minutes into the half when Megan Hamm scored off a free kick by Tammy Smith.
Center Grove quickly scored again to take a 2-1 lead, but with under eight minutes left, Emily Roper scored the equalizer with Sophie Shepherd making the assist.
“It’s always more fun when you have to dig deep to get what you want,” said Carmel coach Frank Dixon.
The ‘Hounds finished MIC play 6-0-1 and are 10-2-2 overall. Carmel will play 3A No. 10 Zionsville Saturday morning at the Eagles’ football stadium.

Noblesville’s girls team picked up another Hoosier Crossroads Conference win Wednesday, beating Franklin Central 3-0 in an away game.
The Class 3A No. 1 Millers led 1-0 at halftime; Meredith Tippner scored the goal, while Makenna Maloy provided the assist. In the second half, Maloy put Noblesville’s second goal in during the 45th minute. Three minutes later, Isabella Griffey scored the Millers’ third goal, with Ava Bramblett making the assist.
Noblesville is 6-0 in conference play and 12-0 overall. The Millers host 3A No. 12 Penn on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton Southeastern’s boys team, ranked No. 7 in 3A, dropped an HCC game to 3A No. 12 Zionsville 3-0 Wednesday at the Royals’ TCU Field.
Southeastern finished conference play 3-4 and is 9-4-1 overall. The Royals host 3A No. 20 Homestead Saturday morning.
