The Hamilton County SSAA Chorus, “Silvernotes,” is starting up the 2019-20 singing season. A dinner is planned for 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds O.V. Winks Building. Prospective members are welcome. Please enter on the west side of O.V. Winks Building that faces the Humane Society parking lot.

The new music for the season will be distributed and attendees will review the Silvernotes’ Festival song critique by Dr. Scott Buchanan, Director of the School of Music/Director of Choral Activities, and Dr. Kristopher Sanchack, Assistant Professor/Director of Choral Activities at Alabama State University.

The chorus is part of the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association. There are 26 member choruses around the state. These choruses sing at festivals, community and sporting events, churches, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.

Member choruses, like the Silvernotes, also join together across the state numerous times throughout the year to comprise the State Chorus known as “The Melody Makers of Indiana.” Purdue University founded the choral group in Tippecanoe County in 1934. Other county choruses were formed in the following years.  The Silvernotes joined them in 1936 and have been active ever since. The Melody Makers are directed by Dr. Buchanan and accompanied by Dr. Sanchack.

Silvernotes members come from Carmel, Westfield, Noblesville, Fishers, Indianapolis and Cicero. Members range in age from teens to senior citizens.

If you are a woman who would like to commit to a welcoming, professional singing organization, please call the Hamilton County Indiana Extension Office at (317) 776-0854 for contact information. Rehearsals take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday evenings September to June.
