Sheridan Community Schools FFA members Eva Beckner and Landon Glunt earned top honors at the annual FFA State Convention after they won in the Discovery Degree Animal Science Demonstration category. Mackenzie Pickard accepted on behalf of Landon, along with Eva.
In the Discovery Degree Animal Science Demonstration category, FFA members perform a demonstration about an agricultural topic to a panel of judges on their own or with a partner. In doing so, students work on their communication skills as they explain the process or steps of their topic and its importance and relevance to the agricultural industry. Particularly in an Animal Science Demonstration, FFA members can demonstrate effective, current, and safe practices in the industry of animal production and care, including science, meat processing, and the use of biotechnology. This category challenges students to creatively and effectively present information related to their field of choice.
Beckner’s and Glunt’s demonstration stood out among competitors across the state, which highlights their passion, but also their ability to communicate clearly and confidently. Well done Eva and Landon!

Additionally, Eva Beckner and Mackenzie Pickard participated in the Discovery Food Science Demonstration. Maddie Roberts, Landon Glunt, Eva Beckner, and Mackenzie Pickard participated in the Discovery Quiz Bowl. June Harle, Eva Beckner, Landon Glunt, Jacob Glunt, and Mackenzie Pickard participated in the Discovery Agricultural Issues Contest. The Sheridan FFA chapter participated in the Exhibit Contest.
Sheridan FFA students also participated in a Day of Service at the State Convention. They joined leadership contests and prepared meals for the Million Meal Movement Day of Service project. This gave students a hands-on opportunity to work alongside other FFA members across the state and assemble meal packages that will be distributed to families in need.
At FFA’s heart is service, so chapters challenge themselves to put their leadership into action to serve their local communities. Sheridan showcased that at the State Convention.
Well done, Sheridan FFA!
