On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Sheridan High School celebrated Veterans Day with a performance by the High School Chamber Choir and Band. Two separate performances took place – one for the middle school and the other for the high school.

During the performance, the High School Chamber Choir started off with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and the students’ voices echoed around the room. Next the band performed a piece titled “Within These Hallowed Halls” by James Swearingen, while middle school teacher Dr. McGinnis narrated the story of Veterans Day.

Following that, the chamber choir once again sang to the audience, this time to the popular “Armed Forces Salute.” As the choir was singing the official marchpasts of each branch of the armed forces, students in the audience stood when the particular song of a family member’s branch was sung.

Middle & High School Band Director Mr. Cronin closed the performance with the traditional “Taps.” As he played, students and staff were released silently, which was memorable and moving to witness.

This annual performance is a wonderful opportunity for Sheridan students to see how important veterans are to our country and how to show them respect and gratitude during this time of year.
