On a cold and blustery Tuesday morning, Mr. Rick Davis, Principal of Sheridan High School, and his wife, Nikki, set out on an adventure. Mr. Davis had special ordered senior signs to help heal some wounds left on hearts by COVID-19. After loading up his car and having all senior addresses in hand, they headed out for the day to place signs into yards and help bring smiles to many parents’ and students’ faces.

Jakob Leonard, a senior at Sheridan High School, said, “I am very appreciative of the Class of 2020 yard sign that was given to me by Sheridan High School Principal Rick Davis and his wife Nikki. We are all experiencing some raw emotions that we have never felt before in face of this pandemic. Even though our senior year has been cut short of long-awaited memories, it is awesome to have our administration, teachers and staff lifting us up with hope and love. These are the moments that I will remember when this is all over. Thank you very much for honoring me and my SHS senior class.”

Jake’s parents, Steve and Anita Leonard, also said, “Words cannot express our appreciation; we thank you very much!”

Many expressions of thanks flooded social media as well. Parents and students alike were waking up to such a nice surprise.

Sheridan Community Schools have often been known as the best-kept secret in Hamilton County due to the outstanding educators that can still offer that small-town feeling. Each student at Sheridan has multiple opportunities to get involved and be known by their first name.

“I was so surprised to see the sign at the end of our drive and wondered who had put it there, but living in a small community, word travels fast. Words cannot express how truly grateful we are to have a principal who cares enough to personally deliver each sign for the class of 2020,” said Jenny Roberts, proud mom of senior Jake Roberts.

While seniors are hopeful that the new graduation date of July 25 can take place, the signs in their yards help share the message that, no matter what, Sheridan is truly proud of their accomplishments and will continue to find creative ways to honor them.
