Sheridan girls win share of HHC crown, boys fall to Taylor

The Sheridan girls basketball team was in celebration mode after its game with Taylor Friday at Larry Hobbs Hall, as the Blackhawks beat the Titans 59-47 to win a share of the Hoosier Heartland Conference championship.
Sheridan finished conference play with a 7-1 record, sharing the league title with Carroll. The ‘Hawks played Taylor as part of an HHC girls-boys doubleheader.
The Titans led 13-10 after the first quarter. Sheridan came back in the second period to lead 23-21 by halftime, then blasted through the third quarter, outscoring Taylor 18-6. The Blackhawks used balanced scoring to take control, with six different players getting points in that quarter.
Sheridan then held on in the fourth period thanks to free throw shooting, as both Cecilia Timme and Kenzie Garner went 4 for 4 from the line. Timme totaled eight points in the fourth. Ashley Webel hit two 3-pointers during the quarter; she also made two 3s in the first period as well.
Webel finished the game with five triples on her way to 17 points, while Timme added 16 points and Garner scored 10.
BOYS GAME
Sheridan’s boys team fell to Taylor 67-27 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Titans led 16-6 after the first quarter. The Blackhawks played even with Taylor in the second quarter, scoring 15 points, but the Titans led 32-21 at halftime. Evan Grinstead hit three 3s during the quarter, scoring 11 points overall in the second. Taylor outscored Sheridan 35-6 in the second half.
Grinstead finished the game with four 3s and 17 points.
The Sheridan girls finished the regular season 13-5. They will play Rossville Tuesday in the first game of the Clinton Prairie sectional.
The Blackhawks boys are 1-6 in conference play and 4-12 overall, and are off until Saturday, Feb. 5 when they play at Western.
