Shepherd’s Center, area seniors need your help now

The coronavirus is affecting seniors in Hamilton County in a way never expected.

The Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County (SCHC) is the trusted resource in Hamilton County for connecting seniors to programs and resources that support their independence. SCHC desperately needs your help as it has no extra funds to assist with the influx of new requests in this time of need.

SCHC has a goal to raise $500,000 so that it can say “yes” to any senior in Hamilton County who has a need in the next six months.

Since 2017, SCHC has seen 192 percent growth in the number of seniors served and over 1,000 percent growth in referrals. There are 7,500 seniors in Hamilton County who live at or below the 40th percentile of the area medium income ($16,000 or less). Due to the current COVID-19 situation, SCHC’s phones are now ringing off the hook with requests for services.

The coronavirus outbreak has caused the majority of all seniors in the county to shelter in place, and forced SCHC to temporarily close the group programming that allowed seniors to gather for food and fellowship. SCHC is activating new ways to assist Hamilton County seniors by delivering food, cleaning supplies other needed items to the doors of seniors, and regularly reaching out with a personal call to assess needs and provide vital social connection.

Please consider donating today to help SCHC meet its goal of assisting any senior in Hamilton County who needs services. If half of the seniors mentioned above needed food assistance for three months during this crisis, it would cost $280,000 to provide it.

You can donate by visiting this link or by writing a check to Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County, 347 S. 8th St., Noblesville, IN 46060. Please note “Coronavirus support” in the memo line.
