Shaffer questions public spending for private publicity

Dear Editor:

Last month, more than $9,000 in taxpayer money went to a press agent to publicize “the new Feinstein’s Cabaret inside the Hotel Carmichael.”

The publicist’s invoice indicated this is an ongoing project, suggesting more publicity efforts would be coming.

Question: Why are tax dollars being used to advertise and promote a private business in a hotel the city doesn’t own?

Why, indeed, aren’t the two City Council members who actually operate Carmel restaurants complaining about unfair competition?

Councilors Kevin Rider and Adam Aasen have invested untold dollars and hours in building their restaurants without receiving tax support, so far as we know.

Countless other Hamilton County restaurants locked down by government dictate could use a little publicity, too.
