Dear Editor:

It’s National Library Week and all of us in Hamilton County have lots to celebrate.

In a nation where, we are told, fully 18 percent of adults are functionally illiterate, readers in Hamilton County have literally a bottomless supply of literate resources in our libraries.

Sure, the libraries are supported by taxes and many of them are running in debt to keep up with demand, but their services are priceless.

You don’t have to believe this old curmudgeon.

Just visit a library and look at the faces of children going in and coming out of the library.

You’re looking at knowledge on two legs thanks, in no small part, to our public libraries.
