On Monday, U.S. Senator Mike Braun released the following statement honoring the life of Elwood Police Officer Noah Shahnavaz, who was killed in the line of duty one year ago on July 31.

“Today marks one year since Indiana lost Officer Noah Shahnavaz in the line of duty, and Indiana has lost too many heroes in the year since,” Sen. Braun said. “Every time a police officer is injured or killed in the line of duty, it sends a shockwave through their community. Congress should pass the Thin Blue Line Act to increase penalties on those who target police, and all Americans must do what we can in our communities to restore respect for our police as an American value. I’m glad to hear the City of Elwood and Madison County will be naming a mile of Ind. 37 to honor Officer Shahnavaz’s memory.”
