Westfield business owner and Marine Corps Colonel Scott Willis announced Monday that he is running for Westfield City Council, District 1. District 1 includes the neighborhoods of Emerald Pines, Oak Manor, Brookside, Bridgewater, Setters Run and the downtown area south of State Road 32 and east of Union Street.
Born and raised in central Indiana, Willis has lived in Westfield for the past 15 years. Willis is an experienced and successful entrepreneur, owning two small businesses in the community. In addition, he has served the past 26 years in the United States Marine Corps Reserves where he has risen to the rank of Colonel. In his current role with 4th Marine Division serving as the G-7, he travels the country ensuring combat readiness of units in the division.
Willis brings a wealth of experience both in government and the business community. He is focusing his campaign on three areas: Economic development, revitalization of the downtown area and public safety, especially as it relates to keeping children safe in school.
“Westfield has matured as a city over the past decade,” said Willis. “I look forward to building on the momentum and assisting in bringing in entrepreneurs and economy-boosting companies. I bring a unique background in business development as I have partnered with both small start-up and Fortune 500 companies in attracting top talent in what is a challenging job market. I am excited about the opportunity to apply the lessons I have learned in Corporate America to help Westfield expand its tax base.”
Willis has spent a lifetime serving his community and is currently Chairman of the Westfield GOP Club, Advisory Planning Commissioner for the City of Westfield and a member of the Westfield YMCA Steering Committee. He also serves on numerous boards including the Westfield Washington Public Library, The Bridgewater Club, Park Place Centre Association and Operation Job Ready Veteran.
In addition, he is active in Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, Free & Accepted Masons, Westfield Chamber of Commerce, Purdue University President’s Council, coaching youth sports for WYSI and Northview Christian Church. In the past, he co-chaired the Westfield YES Political Action Committee for the operating referendum for Westfield Washington Schools.
“As I near retirement from the Marine Corps, I am excited about the next chapter in my life,” Willis said. “I have a lot of energy and am passionate about making a difference in my community.”
Willis is married to Stacey Willis and together they are raising their three kids Sophia (15), Brenna (13) and Graden (8).
