The Hamilton Southeastern volleyball team had a perfect day at the Warren Central Invitational Saturday, winning all of its matches to finish first in the tournament.
The Royals first beat Pike 25-15, 25-10. Middle hitters Zada Anderson hit five kills and Chole Whaley put down four kills. Taylor Shelton smacked six kills from the outside.
Next up for HSE was Greenwood Christian, with the Royals winning 25-17, 25-15. Shelton blasted 12 kills, while Anderson spiked five kills.
“Both Ava Bacon and Olivia Phillips did a nice job distributing the ball to help us defeat a very scrappy Greenwood Christian program,” said Southeastern coach Jason Young.
In their third match, the Royals avenged an early season loss by sweeping New Castle 25-20, 25-16. Shelton again led the offense with eight kills, while Meredith Phillips set down seven kills. Lark Jones dominated the middle with five kills.
“I thought it was our best match defensively this season,” said Young. “Grace Kane, Sarah Chastain, Kat Wagner and Carly Mills all did an outstanding job keeping us in system and allowing Olivia Phillips to run our offense. Huge improvement from early this season.”
Southeastern finished the day with a 25-20, 25-10 win over Evansville Mater Dei. Anderson hit six kills out of the middle, with Shelton and Meredith Phillips spiking eight kills on the outside.
The Royals have now won eight straight matches and are 15-7 for the season.
