Hamilton Southeastern scored a big win at Brownsburg on Friday, beating the Bulldogs 60-54 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference finale for both teams.
It was Brownsburg’s first HCC defeat of the year, although the Bulldogs did finish the season as conference champions with a 6-1 record. The Royals completed their HCC campaign with a 3-4 record.
A strong defensive second quarter made the difference for Southeastern. The Royals trailed 16-14 after the first period, but outscored Brownsburg 12-4 in the second quarter. That gave the Royals a 26-20 halftime lead. Southeastern got up by as much as 39-29 late in the third quarter, and scored 21 points in the fourth to clinch the win.
Reph Stevenson had an outstanding game for the Royals. He scored 27 points, going both 9 of 12 from the field and the free-throw line, and collected 15 rebounds for a double-double. Donovan Hamilton added 12 points. Joe Karwowski made two 3-pointers and Eli Robinson had four steals.
Southeastern is 7-16 overall and finishes the regular-season Tuesday by hosting Lawrence North.
