Roy Roger Favors

October 28, 1946 – August 28, 2018

Roy Roger Favors, 71, Atlanta, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2018 at Riverview Health in Noblesville. Born October 28, 1946, he the son of the late John Clyde and Margaret “Maggie” (Riley) Favors.

Roy grew up in the small Clinton County town of Pickard and attended school at Clinton Central. For over 40 years, Roy worked for AAMCO Transmissions, lending itself to an almost daily dose of “Double A—Beep, Beep—MCO” wisecracks from his family, whenever the opportunity would present itself. When life got a little too fast-paced for his liking, he loved getting out and doing some yardwork or tending to his rather impressive one-acre garden. If that didn’t do the trick, you could most likely find him pitching horseshoes with the Sheridan Horseshoe League or sitting around the table playing some poker, where depending on how either of those two activities were panning out that day, sometimes would lead to more stress than relaxation; which would lead him right back out to the garden.

Roy had a love of games and sports and leapt at the opportunity to share that love with his kids and grandkids. He was a huge Pacers fan, and although he appreciated the Reggie Miller era, nothing compared to the old days. To Roy, the old ABA years out at the Coliseum were just about as good as it got. Getting to watch Netolicky, Lewis, Brown, and Roy’s favorite player of all time, Mel Daniels on the court with Slick Leonard calling plays from the sideline, just had that certain something that, according to Roy, today’s NBA just can’t replicate.

Roy was a member of the Arcadia Christian Church.

Family was an extremely important part of Roy’s life. There was nothing more important to him than getting to hang out and spend time with them, no matter what the occasion.

Roy is survived by his two daughters, Michelle Diane Dupree, Atlanta; and Kimberly Dawn McGuire (Casey), Cicero; five grandchildren, Shelby Powell, Brady Powell, Allyson Powell, Rorey Powell and Katelin Dupree; one great-grandson, R.J. Powell; one brother, Morris Favors, Frankfort; one sister, Susie Cropper, Frankfort; and his sister in law, whom he affectionately referred to as his “not real sister,” Connie Thistlethwaite.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, James, Ronnie, Eddie, Wayne, Bobby, Russell and John; three sisters, Jane Cooper, Mary Menard and Wreatha Holloway; his canine BFF, Smokey Row; and by the love of his life, Denise Kay (Pickard) Favors on January 10, 2005. She and Roy were married on August 3, 1974 and would spend a lifetime by each other’s side. Roy and Denise were one of those rare couples that truly loved spending time together. If you got one, you got the other, and that was just how it was.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service, Roy will be laid to rest at East Union Cemetery.
