Millers open with big HCC win

The Noblesville girls basketball team opened their season last Saturday with a huge Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory at Avon.

The Millers won 68-38. Noblesville outscored the Orioles in all four quarters, leading 21-15 after one period and 35-22 at halftime. The Millers further outdistanced themselves from Avon with a 17-6 third quarter.

Five Noblesville players reached double figures, starting with Meredith Tippner’s 19 points. Ava Shoemaker added 14 points, Kate Rollins scored 12, C.C. Quigley contributed 11 and Reagan Wilson scored 10.

Tippner earned double-double status with 14 rebounds. Quigley collected nine rebounds while Shoemaker grabbed eight. Wilson had seven steals and four assists, with Tippner dishing out four assists as well.

The Millers host Hamilton Heights Friday at The Mill.

Hamilton Heights started its season by winning the Jennings County Tip-Off championship last Saturday.

The Huskies beat Charlestown 27-25 in the first round, then defeated the host Panthers 54-46 in the final. Camryn Runner scored 27 points in the championship game, with Ella Hickok adding nine points.

Heights is 2-0 and hosts Frankton Tuesday.

Guerin Catholic opened its season with a 44-24 victory over Greenwood Christian Academy last Saturday.

The Golden Eagles led 8-1 after one quarter. The Cougars made a comeback to lead 17-15 at halftime, but Guerin Catholic stepped up its defense, not allowing Greenwood Christian any points in the third period to take a 26-17 lead. The Golden Eagles closed out the game with 18 points in the fourth quarter.

Ava Bills led GC with 11 points.

Guerin Catholic plays Saturday at Greenfield-Central.
