October 11, 1927 – March 8, 2022
Ronald Broughton Greene, 94, Carmel, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in his home while lovingly surrounded by family. He was born October 11, 1927, in Zebulon, N.C., to Lester William and LaRue (Broughton) Green.
Ron joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and served as an MP in Cheyenne, Wyo., before heading home to North Carolina to complete his B.S. in Engineering at North Carolina State University in 1951.
During the 35 years he worked for The Alcoa Aluminum Company, Ron held many roles in manufacturing production and he most notably developed and established Alcoa’s Global Leadership Development Program which trained a generation of managers focused on the human dimension of managing others.
Ron was an active member of the Kiwanis Club International and contributed to many communities as he made friends at various local chapters while he moved around the country.
Ron was a proud Southern boy who grew into the epitome of a Southern Gentleman despite spending 50 years up North. In his retirement, Ron became a master of every hobby and craft he touched from woodworking to gardening, but most notably he was an accomplished chef and used food to draw people in and make them feel welcome and loved.
Ron will lovingly be remembered for his unique talent in engaging people and making everyone from his closest relatives to the grocery store clerk feel valued, appreciated, and understood.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Green and Warren Green.
Ron is survived by his wife, Kathleen Laughlin; daughters, Linda Beauchamp, Karen LaShomb, Jennifer Greene (Tyler Wantuch), and Christine Greene; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Zelma Williams (Larry), and an abundance of doting nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
