Westfield rolled past the 50-point mark for the second time this season, and picked a nice time to do it.
The Shamrocks took care of Zionsville 51-24 in their Hoosier Crossroads Conference opener Friday night at the Eagles’ field. Westfield steadily increased its lead over Zionsville throughout the first half, then took care of business in the third quarter with three touchdowns.
Cam Simons started things off with a nine-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, then found Dane Wheeler for a 54-yard TD pass later. Eli Patchett added a four-yard score in the second period, then Sean Sullivan kicked a 32-yard field goal to end the half, putting the ‘Rocks up 24-14.
Westfield stayed with the ground game in the second half, and that helped it put the game away. Micah Hauser scored two touchdowns, from 31 and four yards, with Jack Pfeiffer zooming in 34 yards for a TD in between. Nick Talley completed the Shamrocks’ scoring with a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Simons finished the game with 128 yards rushing and completed 8 of 14 passes for 146 yards. Patchett was next in line on the ground with 90 yards. Sean Sullivan made 6 of 7 extra point kicks.
Westfield is still unbeaten for the season at 3-0. After two weeks on the road, the Shamrocks will return to Riverview Health Stadium next Friday to take on Noblesville.
